On 11th of June, Lord’s will host the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. As of now India and Australia are leading the points table with 68.52% and 62.50% points, but neither of them are not confirmed for the final. The finalist will only be confirmed until next year. The defending champions Australia have two away Tests in Sri Lanka while India still have 10 tests to play. Two at home against Bangladesh, three at home against New Zealand, and five away in Australia.
Pat Cummins who is the current skipper of Aussie side has said that winning the WTC will remain a goal for them. “It’s the result of two years of hard work and consistency for all teams. Hopefully, we can defend the title, but there’s still a lot of cricket to be played before the final.”
New Zealand, Bangladesh, England and South Africa are serially below Australia and India. New Zealand, who are in third right now, have 50.00% points and have recently won a 2-0 series against Pakistan. Bangladesh is fourth with 45.83% , England behind them (45.00%)
and South Africa (38.89%). Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and West Indies are currently at the bottom of the table.
The WTC final has always been played in the soils of England. Southampton hosted the first final, Oval hosted the second final and the third final was played in the Lord’s, one of the most historic grounds. This is the first time a WTC final will be hosted at Lord’s.
The Lord’s venue is going to be quite busy in the coming future as it will be going to host a test next summer when India will play England. India will play six tests in the coming summer in England; the game at the Lord’s will be their third test.
